Unlike most professional harpist who insist that the harp must be played using certain techniques and atire, Maya Hasan decided to buck the trend. Maya started taking harp lesson with Heidy Awuy in Jakarta. Continuing studying Harp Performance at the Willamette University in Salem, Oregon, USA under Laura Zaerr opened Maya's eyes to other genre outside Classical.. Celtic music as a start.
While in the United States, actively participating in harp festivals accross the country, Maya studied with other harp 'guru's, Sally Maxwell (University of Oregon), Joan Turovsky (University of Southern California). It was after meeting Dr. Carrol Mc Laughlin (University of Arizona) and Deborah Henson-Conant, that Maya discover her true individual calling as a harpist to blend her passion for popular, jazz, disco, rock music with a classical touch.
Returning to Jakarta, Indonesia in 1993, Maya started her long journey introducing the core of harp music to the public of Indonesia, which is classical. She was the harpist for almost all of the orchestras in Indonesia: the Jakarta Symphony Orchestra, the Nusantara Symphony Orchestra, Twilite Orchestra, Surabaya Symphony Orchestra, Erwin Gutawa Orchestra, Magenta Orchestra; and performed the first harp concerto in Indonesia: the Mozart Harp and Flute concerto with the Jakarta Symphony Orchestra and flautist Dr. Santiago Yanko (the Philipines).
The year of 2005, Maya once again renew her image and style, establishing her dientity as a cross-over artist collaborating and accompanying both national and international artist: Vina Panduwinata, Nidji, Vicky Sianipar, Getah, Rossa, Michael Paulo, David Benoit, George Benson, andrea Bocelli, Maliq, Padi.
